Your engagement ring is probably going to be your most expensive jewelry item so you may as well put the effort into keeping the sparkle. You will never forget the day you put it on for the first time and spent hours looking at the diamond sparkling in the different light and angles. It is easy to maintain and people will always be dazzled by a nice shinning engagement ring.
Caring for you engagement ring is important and there are ways to do this safely and very cheaply. All you have to do is get a basin of warm water and add a small amount of dish wash liquid. Use a soft cloth (Lint-Free Cloth) and simply rub lightly. The diamond may be one of the toughest products known to man but the ring itself may be gold plated so it is important not to use a hard abrasive brush or cloth to clean as this may damage the gold or silver band. A softened toothbrush is also ideal.
Almost all diamond have a protected film coated around them to obviously protect against the daily wear and tear so do not use heavy brushing on the diamond. One of the myths to cleaning jewelry is to leave it overnight in cola but this can be harmful to the ring itself as the cola has particular acids that can remove coating.
Regular cleaning with a small amount of dish washing liquid will maintain the sparkle. If you use machinery or do a lot of cleaning at home with chemicals always wear protective gloves or put the ring in your jewelry box out of harms way. There are many products available so ask advice before purchasing.
Make sure after cleaning that you dry the ring carefully using a lint free cloth once again, it important not to leave any solutions on the ring as it may cause a mild defect. Whatever you do, do not use the point of a needle to clean in and around the diamond, this can lead to scratches and you may even remove the diamond from the moulding of the ring.
Cleaning should only take place when absolutely required; there is no need to clean just for the sake of it. Obviously you want the best sparkle for photographs and bid occasions so cleaning for that is advised.
